Evan Wheeler
The violin was the first instrument that Evan Wheeler picked up, but at only five years old, it would be far from his last. After five years of lessons on the violin, he was ready to explore some of the other instruments that had interested him. Inspired by the success of his older brother’s band, Evan asked his father for an electric guitar. With a foundation in classical training, he also expanded his repertoire to trumpet. Through out his high school career, Evan continued to expand his broad range of musical interested to include drum corps and marching bands. Inspired by his trumpet teacher, Evan began his education in the formal arts of classical, symphony and jazz. Inspired by the electrifying sounds of guitar legends such as Brian May of Queen and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Evan learned what it takes to be a presence on guitar. One year out of high school Evan auditioned for the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and was accepted. While completing his Bachelor’s degree in music performance, he began performing in local nightclubs on guitar. Starting with the Dayton area band Dangerous Jim and the Slims, Evan then went on to play lead guitar for a two year stint in Funky G before meeting Jason Parker. Jason and David Lenda were in the process of starting a new side project, with two members of Spungeworthy and two members from Funky G, ( Evan and drummer Craig Carroll ) Slaphappy was formed. Over the next year, David and Evan formed a strong musical bond not only with there musicianship, but also their first rate vocal abilities. Though Jason Parker would be leaving for Florida and Craig Carroll would go on to pursue other projects, David and Evan knew they had something to build on. With the addition of Chris Reynolds on vocals, and one year later, Eric Patton on drums, Last Call now consists of four members with an undeniable charisma. The melodic guitar tones and furious solos of Evan Wheeler are the signature of their sound. |
